Creating portraits from photos:
Connie has been gifted with the ability to "bring back to life" subjects in her portraits that are no longer with us. Many of her subjects are pictures of lost loved ones. She is able look at several different photos of the same person and create a composite image. This skill would not have developed as it has today without the tireless practice of interpreting photos in her work. Because of this ability she frequently is asked to do a portrait of a deceased loved one or portrait or a portrait that is to be presented to someone as a surprise. These are done in oils and pastels. She feels pastels are especially nice for children and older people because of the soft effect it gives the person. The oils give a richer, Sharper color and effect. Connie's work is somewhat impressionistic with more of a realistic look about the face, Thus drawing the viewer's attention to the subject's personality. Her work is influenced by her favorite artists; Rembrandt, Norman Rockwell, Monet and John Singer Sergeant.
Connie is self-taught and has received many awards throughout her 33+ year career. During these years she has participated in numerous exhibitions that have resulted in private and corporate commissions throughout the world. "When starting a picture, I feel like I am starting a new adventure in a treasure-filled room. When finished, I know the subject's personality."
